NUPL Connect — Community Terms
NUPL Connect — Community Terms
1. OVERVIEW
NUPL Connect is the online community for student padel in the UK, run by the National Universities Padel League ("the NUPL", "we", "us"). It operates as a WhatsApp Community made up of several groups.
These terms apply to everyone who joins. By joining NUPL Connect you agree to them. If you don't agree, please leave the community.
2. WHO CAN JOIN
NUPL Connect is open to students at UK universities and colleges, members of university padel clubs, and others involved in UK student padel at our discretion.
You must be 18 or over to join. If you are under 18, please don't join - speak to your club committee about what's available to you instead.
You need a WhatsApp account to take part, which means you are also bound by WhatsApp's own terms and privacy policy. We don't control WhatsApp and aren't responsible for it.
3. HOW THE COMMUNITY WORKS
NUPL Connect contains an announcements group, where only admins post, and a number of member groups covering things like finding games, league chat, beginners, the marketplace and partner offers.
You choose which groups to join. Each group has a description explaining what it's for. Admins may add, rename, merge or close groups as the community grows.
Admins are volunteers, usually students involved with NUPL clubs. They moderate in their spare time and aren't available around the clock.
4. HOW TO BEHAVE
We want NUPL Connect to be a place any student feels comfortable joining, including someone who has never held a racket. That means:
Be decent. No abuse, threats, discrimination, harassment or bullying. This applies to messages in the groups and to direct messages with people you met through the community.
Stay on topic. Each group has a job. Keep general chat, partner hunting and selling in the right places.
No spam or unapproved promotion. Don't post advertising, affiliate links, referral codes, other leagues or competitions, or promotion for your own business, event or brand without asking an admin first.
No gambling or betting content. No betting tips, odds, affiliate links or promotion of gambling services, at all.
No alcohol promotion. Members organising club socials can discuss them, but don't post commercial alcohol promotion or content aimed at getting people to drink.
Nothing illegal or explicit. No illegal content, no sexually explicit material, no content that infringes someone else's rights.
Respect people's privacy. See section 5.
5. MODERATION & REMOVAL
Admins may delete messages, remove members from a group, or remove members from the whole community where these terms are broken.
For most issues we'll speak to you first. For serious matters - harassment, discrimination, threats, doxxing, scams, or anything that puts other members at risk - we may remove you immediately and without warning.
If you think a decision was wrong, email team@nupl.co.uk and a different admin will look at it. We'll aim to reply within 14 days.
You can report anything that concerns you to any admin, or to team@nupl.co.uk if you'd rather not raise it in a group. Serious concerns may be passed to the relevant university, students' union or the police.
6. PRIVACY & DATA
Please read this part carefully - it's the bit most people don't realise.
When you join a WhatsApp group, your phone number and profile photo are visible to every other member of that group. This is how WhatsApp works and we can't change it. Only join if you're comfortable with that.
What we hold. If you signed up through one of our forms, we hold the details you gave us — typically your name, university, email and phone number. Within the community itself, WhatsApp holds your messages and contact details; we don't have a separate copy of your chats.
Why we hold it. To run the community, to organise league fixtures and events, and to tell you about NUPL activity. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests in running the league, and consent where you opted in to receive things from us.
Who we share it with. We don't sell your data and we don't pass your phone number or email to partners or sponsors. Partner offers are posted by us into the community rather than by giving partners access to you. We may share limited aggregate numbers with partners — how many members we have, for example — but nothing that identifies you.
Your rights. You can ask to see what we hold, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email team@nupl.co.uk and we'll respond within one month.
Leaving. You can leave any group or the whole community at any time from WhatsApp. If you'd also like us removed you from our contact lists, email team@nupl.co.uk and we'll do it.
Rules for members. Don't add other members to other groups, mailing lists or broadcast lists without asking them. Don't share anyone's number or personal details outside the community. Don't screenshot conversations and post them elsewhere. Don't send unwanted direct messages to people who haven't invited contact.
7. FINDING MATCHES & MEETUPS
The Find a Game group and similar groups are a noticeboard. We are not organising the games.
We do not vet, check or verify members. We don't check identities, ability, DBS status or anything else. Anyone can join the community.
If you arrange to play with someone through NUPL Connect, that arrangement is between you and them. Please:
Meet at a public padel club or venue
Tell someone where you're going
Use your judgement, and leave if you're uncomfortable
You take part at your own risk. The NUPL provides no insurance cover for games arranged through the community, and we're not liable for anything that happens at them. Court bookings, fees and cancellations are between you and the venue.
This is different from official NUPL fixtures and events, which we do organise and which have their own arrangements.
8. MARKETPLACE
The marketplace group lets members sell padel kit to each other.
Any sale is a contract between the buyer and the seller only. The NUPL is not a party to it, doesn't take a cut, and can't recover your money or get involved in disputes.
We don't check that items exist, work, are genuine or are as described. Meet in person where you can, and be wary of anyone asking for payment before you've seen the item.
Commercial sellers, retailers and affiliate links aren't allowed. Don't sell anything you're not entitled to sell.
9. CONTENT YOU POST
You keep ownership of what you post.
By posting photos, clips or other content in NUPL Connect, you give us permission to reshare it on NUPL channels - social media, our website, newsletters and league materials - with credit where we can.
You confirm that content you post is yours to share, and that anyone identifiable in it is happy for it to be shared.
If you'd rather your content wasn't reshared, tell an admin, either in advance or at any point afterwards, and we'll take it down.
10. PARTNERSHIP & COMMERCIAL CONTENT
The NUPL works with partners and sponsors, and we post their offers into the community. Only admins post commercial content.
Offers come from the partner, not from us. Their terms, eligibility rules and closing dates apply, and any purchase or claim is between you and them. Giveaways we run will have their own terms published with them.
OUR LIABILITY
We run NUPL Connect on a voluntary basis and provide it as it is. We can't guarantee it will always be available, accurate or free of disruption.
We're not responsible for what members post or do, for arrangements between members, or for anything that happens at games or meet-ups arranged through the community.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited under UK law.
or for anything else that can't be limited under UK law.
CHANGES TO THESE TERMS
We may update these terms. The current version always lives at this page, with the date it was last changed at the top. Significant changes will be posted in the announcements group.
Continuing to use the community after a change means you accept the updated terms.
GOVERNING LAW
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.

LAST UPDATED:

This notice explains what happens to your information when you sign up to NUPL Connect. Please read it before submitting the form. Last updated: 24/08/2026
WHO WE ARE
NUPL Connect is run by National Universities Padel League Limited (“NUPL”, company number 16013727), the UK’s student padel league. For anything to do with your data, contact us at team@nupl.co.uk.
WHO THIS IS FOR
NUPL Connect is open to people aged 18 or over. If you’re under 18, please don’t submit the form.
WHAT WE COLLECT
Your first name, last name, email address, phone number, university, year of study, and how you rate your padel ability. Nothing else.
WHAT WE USE IT FOR & WHY
Running NUPL Connect: its communities and services. We rely on our legitimate interest in operating the scheme.
Letting your university padel club contact you: only if you tick yes to that question. We rely on your consent.
Emailing you NUPL padel news, events and offers: only if you tick yes. We rely on your consent.
Sharing your contact details with Y1 Sport Limited so they can email you about padel news, events and offers: only if you tick yes to their separate question. We rely on your consent, and Y1 then handles your details under its own privacy notice.
Running the NUPL x Y1 giveaway: if you enter. Entry requires ticking yes to both email questions above and following @nuplpadel and @y1padel on Instagram - full details in the giveaway terms. We rely on your consent.
Producing anonymous statistics about student padel, from which you can’t be identified.
None of the tick-boxes is required to sign up. If you tick nothing, you can still join NUPL Connect and your club’s WhatsApp group.
WHO WE SHARE IT WITH
Your university padel club (or its students’ union or university) but only if you ticked yes to club contact, and only the club at the university you named. Y1 - but only if you ticked yes to their question. Nobody else, and we never sell your data. Y1 also operates the sign-up form’s technology on our behalf under a written contract that stops them using your data for anything of their own without your consent.
WHERE ITS STORED
The form is run on Typeform, whose servers are in the United States. This transfer is protected by the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, as set out in Typeform’s data processing agreement.. After that, your data is held in NUPL’s secure records, accessible only to NUPL’s executive team.
If you choose to join a WhatsApp community, your phone number will be visible to other members of that group. Joining is entirely optional.
HOW LONG WE KEEP IT
If you don’t tick any email boxes and don’t join a community, we delete your details at the end of the season. If you’ve consented to emails, we keep your details until you unsubscribe or withdraw consent, and we review annually whether we still need them.
YOUR RIGHTS
You can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or restrict our use of it, and withdraw any consent at any time - just email team@nupl.co.uk, or use the unsubscribe link in any email. Withdrawing consent doesn’t affect anything done before you withdrew. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113 — though we’d appreciate the chance to sort it out first.
CHANGES
If we update this notice, the current version will always be at nupl.co.uk/privacy.
